A person who spiked treats with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males both nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a young boy.

The defendant was held in detention before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She said his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.

The defendant engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously become sick the next day.

She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in recently.

Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.

"They chose" to investigate in the individual's items."

The prosecutor said materials including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She said Ruben proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining the police response of the events.

Mrs Prior said the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the family member notified the law enforcement again.

She stated Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
